In the isolated Polish countryside of the 1950s, Jadzia, scarred by a fire, lives in the shadow of her fanatically religious mother, unable to cope with the loss of her husband. Charcoal and paper allow the girl to piece together her shattered body and identity. When this attempt at selfacceptance is taken from her, Jadzia descends into a spiral of hallucinations, religious visions, and violence, leading to a final, boundary-breaking act of liberation.
