Zhardem Baytenov

Zhardem Ismailovich Baytenov Born on March 27, 1932, in Alma-Ata. Soviet film director. He graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the S. M. Kirov Kazakh State University (1959), while working as a loader and worker at the Alma-Ata Film Studio. In 1959–1960, he worked as an illustrator for the newspaper Lenishil Zhas (Lenin’s Shift). In 1966, he graduated from the Directing Department of VGIK (workshop of S. Gerasimov and T. Makarova). Since 1966, he worked as a director at the Kazakhfilm Studio. He made several documentary films, including We’ll Meet in Mangyshlak (1964), Architecture of Kazakhstan (1975), Theatre and Time (1976), The Way of the Theatre (1977), and Aspiration to the Future (1977). He was also engaged in film dubbing.
