Márcio de Moraes

Márcio José de Moraes is a retired Brazilian federal appellate judge. He served as President of the Federal Regional Court of the 3rd Region (TRF3) from 2001 to 2003. Moraes earned his Bachelor’s degree in Legal and Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo (USP) and joined the federal judiciary in 1976. In 1978, early in his judicial career and during Brazil’s military dictatorship, he gained national prominence for ruling against the federal government in the case of journalist Vladimir Herzog’s assassination, holding the state accountable for his death.
